Takashi Ueno of the Tenniscoats, known for his releases under the pseudonym veno tagashi, presents this challenging solo album, "hasunosu", under his surname ueno. On this instrumental album, all the beautiful layers of sound were created by Ueno's use of electric guitar.
Ueno chose Kazumi Namba of Kuchiroro to master the album, and Saya of the Tenniscoats also contributed as the "ghost" producer.
Artwork by David Duval Smith of the art unit Namaiki.
Production notes:
From the past, I've always loved recording on my multi-track casette recorder. I've noticed that I achieve fascinating results when I recorded myself playing guitar right after I woke up from sleep. The recordings sounded as if I did not create them by myself, and I started using the pseudonym veno tagashi, after a working visa mishap (I was able to enter the country eventually).
After performing with eccentric and fun musicians such as Yasunori Ikunishi, Hiraku Suzuki, Taku Hanoda, Tsuyoshi Hirano, Tetsuji Akiyama, Dai Aiba, Takuya Takahashi, Yuri Kudo, Masahiro Narita, and Ikuro Takahashi, that feeling of playing guitar right after I woke up started to filter into my normal style of playing, and I started to feel that "that is also a part of me." So I didn't feel the need to use a pseudonym anymore. Plus, all the other musicians were using their real names anyways. Now even when I play guitar at the end of the day, I can achieve that feeling of playing right after I wake up. In other words, I can now play clear and flat all the time! During the mastering process, Namba and Saya were both more particular about the sequencing, spaces in between songs, sound quality and texture, and starting and end points than me. I found it strange that they were more into these details than myself, but after hearing the end product, I was amazed at how the overall sound had dramatically improved. When I saw David's artwork, It was not only something that I had never seen before, but it was unexpected, full of wit, simple, humorous, and stylish. All of these elements were perfectly balanced, and only David could have created it. I was so happy that he let me use his artwork.
So ultimately, I still can't be straightfoward and say that I made this album all by myself...
